2017 Academy Awards Best Dressed List

A select few tourists got the surprise of their lives, Meryl Streep received a totally undeserved standing ovation, protests were present in the form of ribbons and pins, the Damen-Kimmel “feud” escalated way beyond late night TV, cookies and donuts fell from the sky and Taraji P. Hansen could not have been happier, and in a hilarious mix-up during the Best Picture finale, the “La La Land” cast handed their Oscar statues off to the “Moonlight” cast. This year’s Oscars were memorable to say the least. The red carpet, not so much.

Slits, sleeves, stones, straight skirts and a whole lot of black—that’s what the cream of the fashion world sent to the Oscars on the backs of Hollywood’s best. The carpet had an old Hollywood feel to it—old being the key word there—and more than one celebrity looked a bit too much like Oscar himself. Many stars went minimal and many missed the mark. I almost gave myself a headache holding my breath. There were thankfully a few stunning exceptions. The nominees for best dressed at the 89th annual Academy Awards are:

Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo Couture

Ruth Negga in a Valentino dress and Irene Neuwirth for Gemfields jewelry

Emma Stone in Givenchy Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co. jewelry

Olivia Culpo in custom Marchesa for Stella Artois + Water.org

Felicity Jones in a Christian Dior Couture dress and Christian Louboutin shoes

Taraji P. Henson in a custom Alberta Ferretti dress, Jimmy Choo shoes and Nirav Modi jewelry

Riz Ahmed in Zegna

Kirsten Dunst in Dior Haute Couture

David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabbana

Alicia Vikander in a Louis Vuitton dress and Bulgari jewelry
