2017 Billboard Music Awards: The Best Dressed List

Two common questions I get asked: Where do you get your photos? / How do you compile your best dressed lists? I’m happy to answer both. Best Dressed lists are compiled with consideration for both fashion and beauty and are not capped at any number. Longer events with multiple looks on the same celeb are compiled in descending order, beginning with the event’s best look. The more looks a celeb has on the list, the higher he or she moves in number.

I cover the various screenings and photo calls via live streams online and save/like/retweet/screen shot all my favorite looks. When the event concludes, I compile all my favorite looks in one place and eliminate them one by one using the following criteria: Does it demand a second look? / Does it fit the celebrity? (By fit, I don’t just mean properly tailored. Rather, is the look on the correct person?) / Does the beauty correlate?

When all the blood has been spilt, I comb Getty Images for the best photos. Each look gets two: One close up, one full shot. I then proceed to stalk the makeup artists, stylists, celebrities and publicists on social media until I uncover looks origins (cross checking my sources with larger publications and a few dedicated fashionistas). Occasionally I will find an error, and if you find one before I do, I hope you will point it out to me.
