Desert Bloom

The desert does not lie. You can always expect the same dry heat, sun and to-die-for scenic views made of mountains, cacti and palm trees. Let it envelop you in its beauty and you’ll never want to leave. Read More

Product review: The Silicone Beauty Blender

The original Beauty Blender is the number-one purchased tool at Sephora, and yet it has an ideal 90-day shelf life according to the company website. If you’re loyal to the Beauty Blender, that’s $80 of income each year FOR SPONGES. Let that sink in. It’s less wasteful than buying cosmetic sponge wedges in bulk at your local drug store, but no less costly. And let’s be real, there are more important things in life. Like puppies. Read More

Introducing ‘Girl Talk,’ the official newsletter

Newsletters have become synonymous with all things I detest—lackluster content, junk mail, spam, sales calls. They are the offspring of this fantastical idea that we should have all the news we care about delivered to us in one beautiful well-written email, a private piece of tailored content just for us.

Maybe in a perfect world that’s possible. Read More

God Save The 90’s

Upon the return of the choker earlier this year, one thing became abundantly clear—the 90’s had come full circle. Just when you thought some things would never be cool again, they start popping up in Vogue. Take mom jeans, bucket hats, or wearing chunky high heels over calf-high dress socks. But then, maybe we were too busy trying to dress for our given decade to notice that they were always cool. Granted, there are a few trends that we wish would just stay away, like manpris, terry cloth, bike shorts and butterfly clips on adult heads (never again). Inspired by the best looks of the decade and the style icons that made them timeless, this season we’re pairing our patched denim and nerdy graphic tees with our favorite fall staples. While you’re fishing the grunge out of your closet, make sure to call your mom and apologize for telling her that her mom jeans weren’t cool. Read More

Sunday Morning Read: How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are

“Always be fuckable.”

I snapped the book shut with a breathy gasp, glancing over my shoulder in the petite section of Anthropologie. I had no reason to be shopping in the petite section. The sales associate sizing pleated pants across from me thought so too. Like a guilty teenager, I became suddenly distracted by a pair of overpriced stilettos and made my escape. With one finger between the pages to keep my place, I meandered to the sale section where I read on:

“Always be fuckable: when standing in line at the bakery on a Sunday morning, buying champagne in the middle of the night, or even picking the kids up from school. You never know.”

Call Me Coco

Though spring technically starts March 20, most Chicagoans don’t expect it to feel like spring until late April or early May. Winters are long and cold, but we greet the piercing wind and freezing temperatures with faux fur and open arms. Currently we’re in that awkward stretch of 45-60 degree days that demand both jackets and short sleeves at various times. So, I put together a Coco Chanel inspired ensemble with layer upon layer of fabulousness that is perfect for those warmer afternoons and equally appropriate for cooler evenings. Read More
