We don’t often get snow in Seattle, but when we do it’s pretty spectacular. Also, had a major writing breakthrough this weekend. #thewritercommunity: you know that feeling when inspiration strikes like a lightening bolt and the words won’t come fast enough? Anyone? Bueller? Well, it was like that. I cannot wait to start yapping more about the book plot to y’all on social. But for now...🤐✍🏻 #findmywritingcommunity
I’ve been itching to walk across the Bridge of the Gods from the moment I finished Cheryl Strayed’s Wild. Maybe one day I’ll actually make it part of a long-distance hike. What a view.
I hiked, drank pour over lattes, cooked chicken shawarma over a campfire, spent a whole day writing, finished reading a book, stargazed while listening to the Folklore Long Pond sessions, made s’mores, meditated, and did nothing. Definitely going to do some more nothing again soon. @getawayhouse
This week, I’m taking a long awaited trip into the mountains. Three days without service or internet and nothing to do except sit in a rainy cabin with a steaming cup of coffee and just write.
#NaNoWriMo starts today!! 💻 This year, I’ll be revising instead of drafting, which is an interesting reverse from 2019. I’m starting at 187,000 words, and rather than adding 1,666 words a day, I’ll be trying to cut 1,666 words a day. (Inner demons: Yeah, good luck with that one.)
When I get stuck in a draft or a revision, I do one of two things. My first reflex is to call a beta reader and hash it out with them: What exactly isn’t working and why? What could I do instead? How would that change domino the rest of the story and is that a good thing? When the writing isn’t working, the answer, at least for me, is not more writing, it’s talking. I can usually work through a problem much faster orally than I can trying to write myself out of a ditch. When it’s late and that’s not an option, or I know in my bones only I can fix the problem, I turn on my story inspiration playlist and walk. I lose myself in the music and the movement and write the scene over and over in my head until there’s a fork in the story path, and I can see the way through. #findmywritingcommunity
Hello fellow writers! Happy #findmywritingcommunity day!✨ Huge thanks to @adrienneyoungbooks and @kristindwyer for putting this event together!
I’ve been reading my book aloud for the past hour. As you can see, Cooper is very invested in the storyline.
I’m exhausted, stinky, and a wee bit drunk, but draft 2 of this book is DONE. If you need me, I’ll be enjoying a well earned soak.🍷📖
